SESAC row eases to take Music Modernization Act one step forward
Posted on: 3 août 2018, by : Stuart Dredge

Peace appears to have broken out after a heated row involving collecting societies and songwriting bodies in the US, over the Music Modernization Act (MMA).
Songwriter bodies SONA and NSAI had strongly criticised Blackstone, owner of SESAC and the Harry Fox Agency, for what they perceived as an attempt to derail the legislation as it progresses towards becoming law. Yesterday, the two sides brokered a compromise agreement that will see the MMA take a step forward.
The key change: the new collective organisation being created by the MMA will now only administer mechanical licences, but not sync, performance and lyric licensing too.
