France is the latest major market to publish its recorded music sales numbers for the first half of 2018, with the headline news being that on-demand streaming grew 39% from the opening six months of 2017 and now makes up 56% of the total market.
Recorded music trade body SNEP reports that there were 27bn streams on audio-streaming services in the first half of this year, up 33% from the 19.4bn in the first half of 2017.
That means more than 1bn audio streams a week in France now, a symbolic milestone, up from 750m in H1 2017 and double the 500m recorded in H1 2016. Back in H1 2014 there were only 173m streams a week.
